Quincy Mine was established up the hill from the City of Hancock about 1856. It had five shafts and was a long producing and profitable copper mine. The mining company also had its own narrow gauge railroad (the Quincy & Torch Lake) to take aggregate to their stamping mill near Hubbell on Torch Lake.

The Quincy Dredge and Stamp Mill are located along Michigan Highway 26, or M-26, about two miles south of Hubbell, Michigan. You'll find the stamp mill on the west side of the road, and the Quincy Dredge across the street, in Torch Lake.
The Quincy Stamp Mill was was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. I'm not aware of any efforts to preserve it though. The hill above and on either side of the mill is overgrown but I saw signs of the former rail line connecting the mill to the mine.
Mill 2 was closed in 1922, and the equipment modernized in Mill 1 between 1929 and 1930. By 1931, the effects of the depression were being felt and Quincy was horsed to close the mine and mill. In 1938, copper prices were improving and Quincy was able to refurbish and reopen the mill.
